HISTORY OF LEON TROTSKY

  • In 1879 Lev Davidovich Bronstein (Leon Trotsky) was born in Yanovka, Ukraine.
  • At the age of 19 he was arrested for writing and printing revolutionary literature, and was sent to Siberia.
  • In October 1902, he went to London and joined with Lenin and other revolutionaries.
  • Leon Trotsky was a huge part of founding the Soviet Union.
  • In the October Revolution he played a big role in bringing the Bolsheviks to power,
  • Trotsky organized the Red Army during the civil war.
  • Trotsky returned to St. Petersburg in 1905 to helped organise the city's first soviet, he was arrested and sent to siberia again.
  • He was sent to Siberia for life without any civil rights, he decided to escape and his exile lasted 10 years (until the Feb. revolution of 1917).
  • When he returned Lenin made Trotsky Commissioner of War and gave him full control of the newly formed Red Army
  • The civil war was won in 1921, many beleived that Trotsky would be the logical successor to Lenin who died in 1924.
  • Because of his insistance on Permanent Revolution trotsky had few friends within the party.
  • Stalin had great power by 1927, and expelled Trotsky from the Communist Party in 1929, along with expulsion of Russia.
Trotsky moved to Mexico where he was murdered by a Stalinist agent on August 20th, 1940.

SNOWBALL
  • Helped live out the dreams of Old Major, contintued song Beasts of England .
  • Lead the animals during the Battle of Cowshed.
  • Created the 7 commandments with Napoleon.
  • Very Intelligent.
  • Organized Animal Committee's.
  • Sent pigeons to surrounding farms and tell them on the Rebellion and teach them the song Beasts of England.
  • Created a flag signifying Animal farm
    - " The flag was green, Snowball explained, to represent the green fields of England, while the hoof and horn signified the future Republic of the Animals which would arise" (21).

SIMILARAITES

  • Trotsky (Snowball) partnered with Stalin (Napoleon) after the death of Lenin.
  • Trotsky and Stalin disagreed on everything, just as Snowball and Napoleon did.-" ... it was noticed that these two were never in agreement" (22).
  • Both were very intelligent, Snowball taught himself to read.
  • Snowball lead the animals in the Battle of Cowshed, just as Leon Trotsky lead the Red Army.
  • Won over people easily with their speaches.-" At the meetings Snowball often won over the majority by his brilliant speeches" (33).
  • Trotsky managed to live through a number of assassination attemps by Stanlinists , just as Snowball did escapeing from Napoleon's dogs.
    -"He was running as only a pig can run, but the dogs were close on his heels. Suddenly he slipped and it seemed certain they had him. Then he was up again..." (37).
